چکیده

We estimate the levels of turbulence in the envelopes of Class 0 and I protostars using a model based on measurements of the peak separation of double-peaked asymmetric line profiles. We use observations of 20 protostars of both Class 0 & I taken in the HCO(J=3→2) line that show the classic double-peaked profile. We find that some Class 0 sources show high levels of turbulence whilst others demonstrate much lower levels. In Class I protostars we find predominantly low levels of turbulence. The observations are consistent with a scenario in which Class 0 protostars form in a variety of environments and subsequently evolve into Class I protostars. The data do not appear to be consistent with a recently proposed scenario in which Class 0 protostars can only form in extreme environments.

Physical structure and CO abundance of low - mass protostellar envelopes

We present 1D radiative transfer modelling of the envelopes of a sample of 18 low-mass protostars and pre-stellar cores with the aim of setting up realistic physical models, for use in a chemical description of the sources. The density and temperature profiles of the envelopes are constrained from their radial profiles obtained from SCUBA maps at 450 and 850 µm and from measurements of the sour...

2-D Radiative Transfer in Protostellar Envelopes: II. An Evolutionary Sequence

We present model spectral energy distributions, colors, polarization, and images for an evolutionary sequence of a low-mass protostar from the early collapse stage (Class 0) to the remnant disk stage (Class III). We find a substantial overlap in colors and SEDs between protostars embedded in envelopes (Class 0-I) and T Tauri disks (Class II), especially at mid-IR wavelengths. Edge-on Class I-II...

OVRO N2H + Observations of Class 0 Protostars: Constraints on the Formation of Binary Stars

We present the results of an interferometric study of the N2H + (1–0) emission from nine nearby, isolated, low-mass protostellar cores, using the OVRO millimeter array. The main goal of this study is the kinematic characterization of the cores in terms of rotation, turbulence, and fragmentation. Eight of the nine objects have compact N2H + cores with FWHM radii of 1200 − 3500 AU, spatially coin...

Herschel observations of embedded protostellar clusters in the Rosette molecular cloud***

The Herschel OB young stellar objects survey (HOBYS) has observed the Rosette molecular cloud, providing an unprecedented view of its star formation activity. These new far-infrared data reveal a population of compact young stellar objects whose physical properties we aim to characterise. We compiled a sample of protostars and their spectral energy distributions that covers the near-infrared to...

Star formation in Perseus II . SEDs , classification and lifetimes

Context. Hatchell et al. (2005) (Paper I) published a submillimetre continuum map of the Perseus molecular cloud, detecting the starless and protostellar cores within it. Aims. To determine the evolutionary stage of each submm core in Perseus, and investigate the lifetimes of these phases. Methods. We compile spectral energy distributions (SEDs) from 2MASS (1–2 μm), Spitzer IRAC (3.6, 4.5, 5.8,...
